Physicians often order Urinalysis as part of pre-surgery preparation, or to screen for a variety of disorders, such as diabetes. Urinalysis may be used to diagnose medical conditions expressed with abdominal pain, or to monitor a current condition such as kidney disease. Urinalysis tests are one of the most ordered tests performed in any clinical laboratory.  Typically between 14,000-15,000 are performed at Jersey Shore Hospital each year.

The Jersey Shore Hospital Laboratory recently acquired an automated urine chemistry instrument, the iChem® VEOLCITY™.   This urinalysis machine has the ability to perform over 200 tests per hour.  Its “walk-away” automated process enables laboratory technicians to be more efficient with their workload.
