Jersey Shore Hospital to Host Safe-Sitter Classes
The Safe Sitter program is a medically accurate program that teaches young adolescents how to handle emergencies when caring for younger children. The goal of the class is to reduce the number of accidental and preventable deaths among children being cared for by babysitters. The cost for the program is $30, and thousands of young adolescents across the country have been trained by the Safe Sitter program to learn these life-saving techniques. Safe Sitter participants will receive helpful tips to make them more confident caregivers. The boys and girls will learn safety and security precautions, such as what to do if a stranger would come to do the door and how to call for help. They will also receive information on child development and age-appropriate activities. The business aspects of babysitting will be covered as well. To successfully complete the Safe Sitter program, students will have to pass a rigorous practical and written test showing that they have mastered the key concepts and have the skills necessary to handle emergencies. Class size is limited, so to register your son, daughter or child's babysitter, call the Health Education Department at Jersey Shore Hospital: 398-5289. Jersey Shore Hospital is a rural community hospital located in Jersey Shore, Pa, serving residents of Lycoming, Clinton and surrounding counties.
