Jersey Shore Hospital To Offer Safe Sitter Class

Safe Sitter classes for girls and boys age 11 to 13 will be held on November 3, 2007 at Jersey Shore Hospital from 8:30 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. Registration for the class, sponsored by the Hospital, is open until October 18, 2007.

The Safe Sitter program is a medically accurate program that teaches young adolescents how to handle emergencies when caring for younger children. The cost is $30.00, to register call 398-5289. Class size is limited.

The goal of the Safe Sitter course is to reduce the number of accidental and preventable deaths among children in the care of babysitters. Thousands of young adolescents across the country have been trained by Safe Sitter to handle life-saving techniques so they are prepared to act in a crisis.

Safe Sitter participants also receive helpful tips build confidence as care givers. They learn safety and security precautions, such as what to do if a stranger comes to the door and when and how to call for help. Participants also receive information on child development and age appropriate activities, all while learning about the business aspects of babysitting.

To successfully complete the Safe Sitter program, the students must pass a rigorous practical and written test to show that they have mastered the key concepts and have the skills necessary to handle emergencies.
