Jersey Shore, PA – October 27, 2005 – Participating in a check presentation ceremony highlighting a $5,000,000 Direct Community Facilities Loan from USDA Rural Development were Lou Ditzel, President and CEO of Jersey Shore Hospital and Gary H. Groves, USDA Rural Development PA State Director. Also attending were Peter Winkler of Congressman John Peterson’s Office, USDA Rural Development’s Therese Snyder, Area Specialist and Marcella Borowski, Area Director; local officials and others.

“Jersey Shore’s use of our Community Facilities program to help with hospital improvements is another fine example of Rural Development’s commitment to the future of rural communities,” said Gary H. Groves, USDA Rural Development PA State Director.

“This building project is a pivotal point in Jersey Shore Hospital’s long history of service to the community and a testament to the Board and its perseverance in pursuing a new hospital,” noted Lou Ditzel, President and CEO. “Together with the Susquehanna Valley Rural Health Partners, Jersey Shore Hospital is an important provider in our health delivery system for Lycoming and Clinton Counties, and the new facility will allow us to continue fulfilling this role well into the future. We are very thankful for all the support and encouragement provided by the USDA Rural Development in making this project a reality,” added Ditzel.

The loan, along with other financing, will be used to renovate and construct a two-story addition to the Jersey Shore Hospital. The proposed project consists of a 41,000 square foot two-story addition plus the construction of a partial basement on the North side of the hospital connecting level 1 (ground) and level 2 (first floor). Additionally, site development is planned including driveways, new surface parking lot for 100 spaces, and a service entrance drive to a new service dock.
