25 Years of Service to the Jersey Shore Community
Dr. Grove Retirement
After nearly 25 years of serving on the Board of Jersey Shore Hospital, Dr. Paul Grove has stepped down to enjoy retirement. Dr. Grove joined the Hospital Board of Directors in 1982 and participated in all of the Hospital’s crucial decisions throughout his time with the Board. He served on numerous committees and was Chairman of the Hospital Board from 1989 to 1990. He also served as Chairman of the Board of the Hospital’s parent organization, Jersey Shore Health Care, Inc., from 1998 until 2001.
While reflecting on the major highlights and accomplishments of Jersey Shore Hospital over the past quarter century, Dr. Grove noted that the goal was always to “continuously improve the quality of care and ensure that the care remain local.” He also noted the significant changes to hospital reimbursement regulations through the years and Jersey Shore Hospital’s success in responding to the changes, including the most dramatic – that of becoming a Critical Access Hospital in 2001. Being a Critical Access Hospital assures Jersey Shore Hospital of receiving the funding needed to improve health care in the best possible way for the community. The Hospital has improved operating requirements to ensure that community health care needs are met. “The Board and management spent endless hours evaluating all of these changes in terms of the greater benefit to the community and I am happy knowing that we made the right decisions,” says Grove.
Dr. Grove also commented on the Hospital’s important role in filling vacancies in physician and specialty coverage for the community and the important role it has played in providing a high quality and stable platform for health care delivery.
In speaking about the future of Jersey Shore Hospital, Dr. Grove noted that the relationships developed over recent years with other providers in the region and the formation of the Susquehanna Valley Rural Health Partnership (SVRHP) would serve the community and Hospital well leading the way to a brighter future. He commented on the importance of the upcoming building project, noting that it was a valuable investment for the community and Jersey Shore Hospital’s future and well-being.
President and CEO of Jersey Shore Hospital, Lou Ditzel, thanked Dr. Grove for his tremendous contribution and sacrifice for the benefit of the community and noted that Dr. Grove’s input, guidance and leadership will be missed. Hubert Valencik, current Chairman of the Board for the Hospital applauded Dr. Grove for his years of service and made it clear that Dr. Grove has been an integral part of the major decisions that have helped Jersey Shore Hospital to succeed over the past 25 years. “The Board will miss Dr. Grove and at the same time, we wish him and his wife, Lois, a happy and enjoyable retirement.”
Dr. Grove was the Superintendent of the Jersey Shore Area School District for ten years and retired in 1983. He received his Bachelor of Science degree, Master of Education degree and Doctor of Education degree from Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Grove and his wife, Lois, live near Jersey Shore. They have three children and three grandchildren.
