Jersey Shore Hospital Honors Volunteers
Award ceremony held in conjunction with
National Volunteer Week
JERSEY SHORE, Wednesday, April 25, 2001
Volunteers were given all the praise at the Jersey Shore Hospital
annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner on Wednesday, April 25 at the Jersey Shore
Elks Club.
The dinner, which is held in conjunction with National Volunteer Week, April
21 - 28, was an awards ceremony honoring those men and women who are giving of
their time to ensuring that the Hospital fulfill its mission of providing the
community with quality health care and healthier living.
Hospital CEO, Lou Ditzel, thanked the group for its efforts and honored
them for their dedication to the hospital and its operation.
"Tonight, we thank all of you for your time and commitment to our
hospital. We appreciate it. You have helped to make this year a good one,"
said Ditzel.
According to records, the hospital volunteers logged an incredible 4,200
hours last year. One volunteer, Jan McMullen received a special gold bar for
having served the most volunteer hours over a lifetime. Her total stands at
8,500 hours.
Mary and Robert Bowersox enjoyed the fine food and fraternity at the Jersey
Shore Hospital annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner. Both received special
honors for their volunteerism and support of the Hospital.

Jan McMullen has volunteered more than 8,500 hours of her time to the Jersey
Shore Hospital. Congratulations are in order for her dedication and commitment.
Other recipients of awards with more than 500 hours include:

- Hazel Gohl - 2,000 hours
- Loretta Hummer - 1,000 hours
- Pauline Spong 3,500 hours

Teen volunteers receiving recognition were Matthew Davis, Christianne
Johnson, Ashley Lanterman, and Pamela Way.
Board chairman Hubert Valencik, presented the awards to the volunteers.
"Without your help and devotion, we would not be known as the friendly
hospital. Your volunteerism is one of the key elements separating our health
care facility from others," said Valencik.
