Jersey Shore Hospital Recognizes Volunteers
Jersey Shore (May 01, 2003) - The annual Jersey Shore Hospital Volunteer Dinner was held Thursday, May 1st to recognize the many hours of valuable service given by volunteers. Volunteers were honored with pins, patches and bars depending on the total amount of hours they have given in kindness.
A special plaque and roses were given to Jan McMullen in thanks for her 9,000+ hours volunteered at the hospital. Jan has been a dedicated volunteer at Jersey Shore Hospital since 1977. She began her volunteer work in the coffee shop and progressed through the years into Physical Therapy, the monthly Blood Pressure Clinic, Housekeeping, Dietary, and the Same Day Unit. While volunteering in Housekeeping, Jan personally wrote to a letter Woolrich sharing the Hospital's need for a new sewing machine. Her letter was effective and soon the Hospital received a new sewing machine, free of charge. Upon receiving the machine, she then spent many volunteer hours stitching the cleaning cloths for Housekeeping. Jan has been a reliable and dedicated volunteer for many years and the entire JSH staff has enjoyed working with her.
Also in attendance was the Jersey Shore Hospital S.W.A.T. (Students Working Ahead for Tomorrow) Team. The team consists of student volunteers ages 13 - 18. This was the first celebration for the teens. The S.W.A.T. program began in late January 2003 and has been a big success. The students volunteer each week in various different hospital departments and assist staff members in many activities.
Jersey Shore Hospital would like to thank the following for their dedication and commitment to the patients and staff: Mary Bowersox, Robert Bowersox, Jenny Butler, Allison Cuebas, Wanda Decker, Amber Eck, Alice Fox, Hazel Gohl, Lauretta Hummer, Dustin Kinley, Vito Lapriola, Jan McMullen, Ruth Overdorf, Ellen Powell, Alberta Richards, Susan Schmidt, Jeanne Serfin, Dean Snyder, Eva Stackhouse, Helen Stewart, Ken Wachter, Robert Wrench.
